Course Overview
Designated marksman rifle training requires advanced skills that go beyond basic carbine proficiency. This 15-hour course delivers structured, progressive instruction designed to build on the skills developed in Basic Carbine and Intermediate Carbine. It bridges technical knowledge with practical application. Consequently, students learn to operate more effectively at mid to long range distances. Additionally, you’ll deliver precision performance under pressure. Students can expect the majority of the target array to be from point blank to 600 yards. Furthermore, challenge targets extend to 1000 yards as equipment and experience allow.
Designated Marksman Rifle Optics and Ballistics
Instruction covers optics optimization and effective use of ballistic apps. Specifically, this includes the concepts behind building and proving drop cards. Students will deepen their understanding of external ballistics, environmental effects, and wind behavior. Moreover, there’s an emphasis on recognizing patterns and making informed calls and corrections.

Positional Shooting and Performance Under Pressure
A significant portion of the designated marksman rifle course focuses on positional shooting. Additionally, it emphasizes mid-range impacts from less optimal platforms. Students should expect a physically demanding experience that requires movement and unconventional shooting positions. Furthermore, you’ll maintain sustained focus over extended training periods. Therefore, this stresses performance under pressure.
Live-fire exercises include mixed-distance steel targets, practical challenges, and scenario-based problem solving. These reflect real-world shooting demands. Students will also work in shooter/spotter teams. Specifically, you’ll use communication and observation to estimate range and target size without electronic ranging tools. Additionally, you’ll apply gun-specific data for faster wind calls. Moreover, you’ll coordinate effectively under time and performance constraints.
By the end of the course, students will have a stronger technical foundation. Furthermore, you’ll gain improved positional shooting capability. Consequently, you’ll have greater confidence applying designated marksman rifle skills in complex, real-world environments.
Day One: Fundamentals
The course runs in two sessions. Starting with safety and expectations, the course covers optic and kit optimization for distance. Additionally, we teach platform technique and accuracy fundamentals to create a zero you can trust. Furthermore, you’ll build a basic drop card to 300 yards. From there we begin to stress the stability requirements of impacts at distance from less than optimal conditions.
You’ll learn to build body platforms that reduce your wobble zone. Moreover, we cover use of props and understanding the mechanics of impact tracking and recoil recovery. Additionally, you’ll build the checklists that learn from every round fired. We round out the day with challenging stress tests. These force the fusion of the day’s techniques. As a result, this boosts confidence and brings the line to the next level of performance. From sight-in to a steel challenge on day one, you will find yourself automating effective habits. Therefore, you’ll build the foundations required for fast impacts at distance.
Day Two: Advanced Designated Marksman Rifle Performance
The second session builds out the platform for mid to long range performance. Additionally, it ups the ante requiring even more from the foundational principles learned on day one. You’ll place consistent impacts, now to 600 yards and beyond. Environmentals are introduced as is a field knowledge of reading wind and calling corrections. This information is used to build and prove DOPE for extended ranges.
Teamwork allows evaluation and learning from every round fired. Moreover, it builds confidence in both shooter and spotter roles. Putting to the test your knowledge of using a reticle alone for judging target size or target distance grows your faith in your equipment. Stress drills focus on accurate reticle holds for faster impacts and effective fire. Confidence is gained through reinforced competence. Consequently, you instill the elements most needed for precision performance under pressure.
