Youth Firearms Class Overview

Focus: Safe firearm handling, respect, and responsibility for young shooters

Goal: Build lifelong safety habits and reduce the risks of unanswered curiosity
Youth training is offered through our Private / Custom Instruction program, with courses designed to introduce young shooters to safe, age-appropriate firearm handling. By teaching respect, safety fundamentals, and proper techniques early, this youth firearms class helps create lifelong competence and a clear understanding of firearm responsibility.
We are committed to helping lay a solid foundation for your child’s safe future with firearms, encouraging young people to build safe habits while enjoying the excitement of shooting sports in a structured, supervised environment.
Eligibility is not based on a fixed age. Instead, it depends on:

Physical ability to safely handle the firearm for the full course

Mental focus to stay engaged for the entire session
If both elements are present, your youth is welcome. Parent or guardian participation is highly encouraged but not required. Family and small-group pricing, homeschool discounts, and scholarships are available. Please contact us for details.

Safety and Skills Youth Will Learn
This youth firearms class focuses on the most important part of a young shooter’s education, their first formal introduction to firearms. Students learn:

Core firearm safety rules

Range etiquette and safe behavior on the firing line

Muzzle awareness and understanding safe directions
-
Trigger discipline and when not to touch the trigger
-
Safe loading and unloading procedures
-
Basic concepts of storage, maintenance, and responsible use as appropriate to their context
Once safety is established, the class moves into basic marksmanship using age-appropriate calibers:

Stance and body position suited to the youth’s size

Proper grip for handgun or rifle
-
Sight alignment and sight picture
-
A consistent shot process that builds confidence and accuracy
The goal is to help youth build safe habits, gain confidence, and enjoy shooting in a positive, controlled setting.
Equipment, Rentals, and Ammunition
Required equipment:

An age-appropriate rifle or handgun, both in caliber and size
-
One hundred rounds of factory ammunition
If you do not yet own suitable equipment, firearms are available to rent from Accurate Advantage.
Youth handgun or rifle rentals are 15 dollars and include:

The firearm

Necessary accessories

One hundred rounds of rimfire ammunition, or twenty rounds of centerfire ammunition
Any additional ammunition used during the class is invoiced per rounds fired.
Firearms brought from the student’s own context must be evaluated by the instructor before they are authorized for use in youth training.
