You can expect heavy brush with angled slopes and gorgeous views. This time of year Alaska will be reaching the peak of the summer solstice offering nearly 24 hrs of daylight. With temperatures ranging from the mid 20s-60s with snow pack just above our match location. We highly suggest packing layers. \nThe firing line will be on a trail east of the highway\, approximately 2/3 of a mile from the highway. Expect approximately 400’ of elevation gain across the course. Travel from parking to the firing line will be by foot. We will be shooting in a 180-degree field of fire with the no-shoot zone paralleling the highway. Expect targets from 15yd – 1\,000yd along a 3-mile-long firing line. Moderate hiking will be required. \nThe Match Zero Range will be open for a limited amount of time on Saturday (RSOs have their own window)\, if you feel you’ll want more than a few rounds for confirmation\, we strongly suggest you stop along the way to the match to zero – see below for convenient range options. Power factor will be checked (if necessary) in this same window. \nMatch Parking: There is a pull-off on the left (west) side of the highway just before the Hurricane Gulch Bridge. Just north of the bridge will be a signed lot for parking. Bear Aware Part 1 is encouraged but not required. \nThis course covers:\n– Range safety and course outline\n– State law and regulations regarding firearms for bear defense\n– Basic Ballistics – what makes a gun a “bear gun”\n– Building a shooter’s platform that’s both effective and supportive to bear defense\n– Basic Accuracy\, emergency and one round reloads\, malfunction fixes\n– Team communication under pressure\, team shooting commands\,\n– Use of support – positional shooting for accurate impacts\n– Bear defense qualification (optional)\n– State law regarding Defense of Life and Property\, reporting requirements \nTotal Course Length: 4 hours – course cost does not include ammo which is invoices per rounds fired after training \nRequired Equipment/Gear:\nSome of these items are available to rent/borrow; see below.\nPersonal firearms are encouraged but not required.\nShoot up to 6 common “Bear Guns” in different calibers and configurations or train on a gun from your context.\nIf you’re bringing a gun of your own\, don’t forget the sling\, magazines\, speed loaders\, holsters\, ammo\, and any other associated accessories! \nProvided: \n– Range fee\n– Firearms for live fire training – shotgun and handgun\,\n– Interactive bear targets\,\n– Eye and ear protection\,\n– Course materials and ballistics handout\n– Course certification \nNot Included: Ammo – billed per rounds shot\, price list available on request \nFIREARMS OTHER THAN SHOTGUNS (handguns\, lever guns) ARE ALLOWED IN THIS CLASS.
