Learn to Safely Enjoy the Alaskan Wilderness!

This course meets the requirements of most corporate safety guidelines requiring employees and field staff to have a safety certification prior to remote work in Alaska. Contact us if you have questions about certification for your staff!

An engaging multi-media presentation is brought to you by knowledgeable instructors who have spent a lifetime in the backcountry gaining personal experience from (literally) hundreds of positive AND negative bear encounters. We bring you this class not as a book-based curriculum but from experience. We want nothing more than for you to enjoy your work season or next adventure SAFELY, and CONFIDENTLY!

Key topics:

  • A dynamic, interactive presentation given by a knowledgeable Alaskan offers insight into specific bear biology, identification and understanding of body language, behavior, and seasonal / location aspects
  • An in-depth video presentation introduces situational awareness, do’s and don’ts, and highlights ways we can have safe encounters without conditioning bear behavior or jeopardizing future encounters
  • This course identifies the advantages and disadvantages of pepper spray and focuses on its successful field use through informative, hands-on training
  • State laws regarding pepper spray and firearm bear defense are outlined, reporting procedures are provided, and questions specific to your context are answered
  • Included with course: training packet, field identification tools, inert pepper spray canister for live fire practice, certificate of completion
